NORMANDY
MARCH 2008

Rather than put my own words on the events that took place in Normandy, I'm using some of the information gathered during our visit

"You can manufacture weapons and you can purchase ammunition, but you can't buy valor and you can't pull heroes off an assembly line" - Sergeant John B. Ellery, US 1st Infantry Division

76,650 American soldiers were buried in 1944-1945 in 24 cemeteries in France. Among them, 31,744 graves took place in Normandy.

It took several companies up until the 1950's to remove the 150,000 tons of scrap metal that were the remains of the artificial harbor. Today, several wrecks and pontoons remain in the sea and they are often visible at low tide.
