NETHERLANDS
I'm not sure how to explain it, but I always know when we've crossed the border into the Netherlands (aka Holland). There is a certain 'something' that lingers in the air....something serene. No, I"m not talking cow patties or anything odorous...just a presence...a calmness, a way of life. From the countryside to the people to the villages, you cannot escape it.
The Netherlands is the most densely populated country in Europe and along with neighboring countries Belgium and Luxembourg, form the union known as Benelux.
Cheeses such as Edam and Gouda are not cheeses, but actual cities in the Netherlands. Along with cheese, you can find wooden shoes, windmills and a population of bicyclists that far outweighs that of car owners.
