SLOVENIA
Often overlooked but always appreciated....that is Slovenia. This is a beautiful, albeit small country just north of Italy...about 1 hour from Venice. The countryside is lush with trees, has some excellent (and not well known) wineries, and a whole-lotta-charm. Visiting here makes me feel as if I am in a fairytale. Thick forest, rolling hills, snow-peaked mountains, tiny villages, baroque churches...it's magic. It is overwhelming to decide where one should visit while in Europe, but if Venice is on your list of to see's...make sure you add Slovenia to that list. So close, so different and so perfect!
