SOUFFLENHEIM, FRANCE
AUGUST 2006
Soufflenheim is an adorable little town in the Alsace region of France, near Strasbourg. They are known for their high quality, glazed and hand-thrown Alsacian pottery...which was the reason for our visit to Soufflenheim! The town consists of many pottery shops, a few restaurants, a church and then it's on to the next town! The pottery is handmade, handpainted, glazed and then baked. The colors, styles, and artistic expressions all vary greatly from store to store and we found ourselves a few great kitchen items longing to find their way into our home (and so they did). Since my mind was more focused on 'do I like this bowl or do I like this bowl', my photos are somewhat sparse and less than stellar. If you are interested in seeing some examples of pottery from this region you can visit: www.confrerie.net or www.ot-soufflenheim.fr. The neighboring town of Betschdorf offers a beautiful selection of grey/blue or white/blue pottery. See www.betschdorf.com. These two cities are just a few hours drive from our home, so should you decide to visit us in Germany, come with an empty suitcase just for pottery!!
